The Heat Is On
Summer weather, welcome to Vancouver! Last week it was so hot, it was too uncomfortable to go to sleep. But this week, it'll be raining, so balance is restored.
Jennie and I went to the rally to support the Lennikovs. Mikhail Lennikov is being ordered to be deported back to Russia, for his ex-KGB past. However, being deported likely means persecution for Mikhail, and the loss of a father for Dmitri, and the loss of a husband for Irina. Mikhail was honest about his Translator past, and helped Canadian intelligence agencies. He cares about his family. The country could benefit from a man with experiences and qualities like this. E-mail your Member of Parliament, to help keep this family together!
Wilson had a board game night where we played Monopoly and Pictionary. It's great to gather around a table, to drink and snack, and to make each other laugh. Other games I like to play with friends are Taboo, Cranium, Wheel of Fortune, and Mad Gab.
Our Cooking and Conversation group went to the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral for their Ukrainian Supper Night. We got to check out a different church, have traditional Ukrainian food, and talk with a member of their parish.
You've Got Mail was on television over the weekend. It's a corny love story. But I wanted to watch until the end, for the inevitable happy ending.
My brother graduated from Simon Fraser University! I'm so proud of him.
Our company participated in Keep Vancouver Spectacular, an initiative to keep the streets of Vancouver clean and respectable. Until that day, I hadn't noticed the number of cigarette butts and cigarette boxes littered across every street. Some streets are dirtier than others, but you can almost guarantee that there will be cigarette trash on any street downtown. Smokers, you can make a difference, wait to throw your trash in the garbage bin.
The guys and gals from the Claims department had drinks and appetizers at Steamworks, to catch up with an ex-co-worker. It was a good time, especially for the chance to see your friends outside of work hours. People are more like themselves outside of the vicinity of the office.
With the invitation team, I helped assemble the invitations for Adrian and Carolyn. I like the design, because it's simple, clean and well-thought-out.
I have one more Chartered Insurance Professional course to complete. After this course, I'll be eligible to receive my designation. It'll be one more month of studying, taking notes, and taking past exams, and I'm looking forward to finishing it all.
Have a happy summer, go outside and be active!
